Saint-Petersbourg

Despite the big technical difficulties met in the edification of the city, because of the muddy soil, St. Petersburg was built in less than ten years. Italian, Swiss and French architects were invited to build magnificent palaces. Renowned for its heroic resistance during the Second World War during a blockade of 900 days, the city has often changed its name (Petrograd, Leningrad) to go back to the original one.

Called the Northern Venice owing to its channels, Saint-Petersburg is famous for its white nights in June, for its most well-known museum, the Hermitage, and, presently, for a lively city centre quite popular among young people.
