Caucasus

Original by its geographical position between Europe and Asia and its very heterogeneous ethnic configuration, Northern Caucasus does not match with the usual image of Russia, owing to its luxuriant vegetation and mild climate.

Divided into the mountain area and the coast, the region is endowed with a rich and accessible tourist offer including popular beach resorts as Sochi and inland spas as the well-known Kislovodsk and Piatigorsk. The main attraction for the alpinists is of course Mount Elbrus, the highest in Europe (5642 m), whose climb is difficult more for climatic rather than technical reasons.
